"In the post-meditative experience become a child of illusion" is a slogan from the Tibetan mind training tradition. We engage the world as we experience it all the while realizing that reality is not as it seems to be.

Sojourners Quote of the Week
This is very powerful, isn't it?
“I feel freedom and for the first time, my voice and opinion really counts.”
- Mounira Fawaz, after casting her vote in the Egyptian presidential elections, the first democratic election in the country’s history

"Divide and conquer"
Wow. He's making his agenda utterly clear. Why any worker would support this is completely beyond me.

Romney Learns How to Talk to Evangelicals
Apparently he is no longer trying to assert that he is one of them. Here's an excerpt:
At Liberty, by contrast, he extravagantly praised the Christian commitment of the graduates while differentiating his own faith in a way that did not quite claim that it was Christian too. Thus, for starters, he informed the graduates that "moral certainty, clear standards, and a commitment to spiritual ideals" would set them apart and put them in the company of a bunch of Christian luminaries that did not include Joseph Smith and Brigham Young:
"That said, your values will not always be the object of public admiration. In fact, the more you live by your beliefs, the more you will endure the censure of the world. Christianity is not the faith of the complacent, the comfortable or of the timid. It demands and creates heroic souls like Wesley, Wilberforce, Bonhoeffer, John Paul the Second, and Billy Graham. Each showed, in their own way, the relentless and powerful influence of the message of Jesus Christ. May that be your guide."
It's going to be a long hot summer. Take good care of your mental health, people!

Is anyone paying attention?
To this, I mean:
"President George W. Bush not too long ago ordered torture and admitted to doing so. Torture is a crime against humanity. The United States has refused to prosecute him. Is he above the law? Where is the fairness?"
- Charles Taylor, former Liberian President and convicted war criminal, stressing the need for ex-U.S. President George W. Bush to be prosecuted for similar crimes
Where, indeed?

A new day for France, it seems
Check this out:
"Austerity need not be Europe's fate."
-- Francois Hollande, socialist French politician, after defeating incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy in France's presidential elections
Perhaps this is a portent of more to come. We can always hope.

Listen up, Virginia!
Oh, man. I hope my friends in Virginia are paying attention:
"This may well be the state that decides who the next president is."
-- Mitt Romney, to supporters in coastal Portsmouth, VA. Virginia is quickly becoming the hottest new battleground in the race for the White House.

What a question!
Just look:
"How can the sale of bananas be more tightly controlled than the sale of machine guns?"
-- Anna MacDonald, head of Oxfam's control arms campaign, pressing for a new international arms trade treaty after an Oxfam report claimed billions of dollars worth of weapons and ammunition have been bought by countries subject to arms embargoes
