Texas Prisons Have Stopped Serving Weekend Lunches
You will not be surprised to learn that there are comments from people who are just fine with it.Since April, the New York Times reports, inmates have not been provided lunches on Saturdays and Sundays.
It's a cost-cutting measure: an effort to trim $2.8 million in food-related expenses from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice's 2011 budget, which makes up just a small part of the state's multi-billion-dollar budget shortfall.

One of my coworkers (who, perhaps unsurprisingly, is a hardcore atheist) argued with me just yesterday that the incarcerated don't have rights. So what does it matter if they go hungry? What does it matter if one of them has diabetes and has to eat at regular intervals or his/her blood sugar will plummet too far? Et cetera.
ReplyDeleteAs an aside, I guess this is why many people believe that atheists are really merciless. They have no incentive to show mercy. M.A.I. (my coworker) believes things like - violent offenders should have body parts chopped off, depending upon what crime one committed. And if one commits murder, kill that person on the spot. He also believes that teaching kids about God and Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are child abuse, because it's lying to the kid.
He can be a real pill sometimes.
Sounds like a very disagreeable person.

It's hard to figure out what turns a person so mean.
