Wolves at risk

Do you know about the arial shooting of wolves? The poor wolf is chased by a low flying airplane until it is exhausted and then shot at point blank range. This is beyond horrible. Did you know that the Forest Service is proposing allowing this method - and others - in previously protected areas? Here's what Defenders of Wildlife says:

Wolves are not only majestic creatures, they also play a critical ecological role in our wild places, preventing overpopulation of other species and habitat damage.

But the Forest Service proposal is written so broadly, entire local populations of wolves could be killed -- from planes, helicopters, or all-terrain vehicles. Toxic pesticide could be shot into their mouths, causing a horrible death.

Right now Defenders of Wildlife, an organization that is trying to stop this proposal, has a matching funds drive until August 30. A generous donor is matching contributions dollar for dollar so you contribution is actually doubled. I just wrote them a check for $50 - a large amount for me - because I believe our nation's wolves need to be protected. They are magnificent, intelligent, social creatures who lovingly raise and protect their young. It's wrong to essentially torture them to death. Please consider contributing to this very worthy cause. The organization is trying to raise $25,000 by August 30. As I write, it has raised $1,930. Let's pull together and help the wolves live their natural lives in peace. You can donate right here.
