Kicking the elderly to the curb

This just makes me sick - especially since I live in Oklahoma:

I also find it STUNNING that Coburn got applause for those remarks.

Also, you know what? Coburn was elected to the Senate in 2004. I don't remember him saying that Medicare and Social Security were unconstitutional while Bush was president. Do you think he's doing this now because Obama has turned out to be such a pushover?

I don't know. I just think it's odd that Republicans are jumping on this stuff now.

  1. The goal is to largely dismantle Social Security, Medicaid and other social programs. Perry's run for the presidency greatly concerns me. This is the Texas Republican's Platform https://www.1888932-2946.ws/TexasGOP/E-ContentStrategy/userfiles/2010_RPT_PLATFORM.pdf and this is what I believe the real goal is of many in the Republican Party. I've lived in Texas so this particular world view is not foreign to me.

  2. It's really hard to fathom this. These are widely popular programs. The Republican propaganda machine is obviously simply incredible.

It's a good thing (for him) that I wasn't there to say to Mister Coburn..."I am my frail, elderly mother's only surviving relative and I have just lost my job and have no health insurance myself...wonder what you would suggest for her"?

  4. I am so with you, Annie. And I have no children to look after me when I'm frail and elderly. I wonder what he thinks someone like me is supposed to do.

Right on Ellie...I know that Coburn's brother, Jim, is a doctor, so obviously, they do not have to even think about such matters...like so many people of financial means.

(I went to middle school for a couple of years with these guys in Muskigee OK), before my family moved back to Tulsa)...maybe that exxplains it; they're from MUSKOGEE!

  7. As it happens, Tom Coburn himself is a doctor.

(In my humble opinion, the medical schools need to do a better job of teaching compassion....)
