Every dog has his day!

Even mutts!

I didn't know this before but today is Mutt's Day! No one seems to know how it originated but I think it's a very good idea.

If you don't have a mutt of your own, consider adopting one. There are truly uncounted numbers of unwanted dogs languishing in shelters right this minute for want of a loving home.

And while we're on the subject of animal companion adoption, why not take a look at a slide show type article on MSN entitled How Pets Keep Us Healthy as a little encouragement?.

If you already have a dog who happens to be a pure bred, well, why not make him or her an honorary mutt for the day (!) and pamper that sweet thing a little bit.

  1. I so agree about all the unwanted dogs. I can't have one, on several grounds, not least that I am away from home most of the day most days and the dog would be lonely - it wouldn't be right. But I would so love a dog. Maybe one day.

  2. Well, Cathy, have you ever thought of getting a little kitty? They need homes too and they manage quite well on their own during the day! :-)

  3. Oh I'd looooove a little kitty, Ellie, I love cats so much, but I have two little pet parrots, and felines and birdies simply do not combine - in short order I'd have one well-fed cat and no birds. The maxim among bird owners is that you can train a dog but you can never trust a cat. I myself would worry about leaving a dog alone with them all day, though, no matter how well trained. One of these days when I've got a bit more space and time maybe I can have a bigger menagerie. Until then I can only support the dog's and cat's home and dream.

I too can attest that no words can adequately describe the quality of companionship provided by a good dog.

I'm a little late getting to this but Saturday was my birthday and I can't think of anything better than to have shared it with the mutts! By the way, I have three mutts, they are the best breed there is.
