What Harry said

Harry Reid

Here's what he said:

The allegations against Congressman Foley are repugnant, but equally as bad is the possibility that Republican leaders in the House of Representatives knew there was a problem and ignored it to preserve a Congressional seat this election year.

-- Sen. Harry Reid

Now, did you know that Foley has checked himself into rehab? For alcoholism and "other behavioral problems". Right. Now he's going to say the booze made him do it. What I want to know is why is he free to go to rehab? Why hasn't he been arrested?

Oh, and did you also know that our own American version of the Taliban (who railed against Bill Clinton for having a perfectly legal, if immoral, affair with a consenting adult) has been reprehensively silent about Mark Foley. Where is their outrage? You can read about the particulars right here in an article by Bob Geiger entitled Religious Right Strangely Silent About Foley.

The main stream press has also been absent as to any moral outrage for what Foley did. I have watched news show after news show and the only aspect of the case which has been discussed is how it will affect the Republicans in the upcoming election. Another example of out press being controlled by the Republicans/religious right.

The other benefit that Foley gets by checking himself into rehab is that it gives him a place to hide until the election is over.

The Republican leadershiip should also be under arrest, as well as Foley, for endangering a minor.
